Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Using Distress Tolerance Effectively

With over 20 years experience as a clinician, Dr. Lob specializes in supporting patients suffering from addictive behaviors, and personality and mood disorders. She has served as clinical director in residential treatment facilities focusing on substance abuse, eating disorders, dual-diagnoses and other mental health disorders for over 12 years. Dr. Lob has been intensively trained In DBT by Dr. Alan Fruzzetti and received Advanced training from Dr. Marsha Linehan and Prolonged Exposure training from Drs. Linehan and Harned at the University of Washington, Seattle. Dr. Lob holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and is a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist, as well as a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS), credentialed by the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP). She is an intensively trained Dialectical Behavior Therapist who enjoys
teaching the modules of DBT to individuals, couples and families suffering from addictive and maladaptive behaviors. The treatment of eating disorders, chemical and alcohol dependency, and other self-harm behaviors forms an integral part of her
practice. Dr. Lob also serves in the capacity of a Volunteer Faculty Block Director for UCI Department of Psychiatry.

With sensitivity, warmth, and compassion, Dr. Lob works with each patient to help them build on their strengths to identify and achieve Life Worth Living goals. Through the practice of DBT, Dr. Lob helps patients learn ways to regulate their emotions and deal with life on life’s terms through the mindful based practice of acceptance and change.

Dr. Lob, who was born in South Africa, enjoys a daily mindful practice. One of her favorite things to do is spending time with her family, especially her four grandchildren.

Dr. Sarah Lyndon is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, and Clinical Director, at DBT Center of Orange County. She has been working in the field of psychology since 2009, and gained experience in a variety of settings including school-based settings, partial-hospitalization programs, intensive-outpatient programs, and community mental health. Licensed since 2018, she holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a Concentration in Child and Adolescent Psychology. Prior to joining DBTOC, Dr. Lyndon focused on working with high-risk children, adolescents, young adults, and families with a variety of presenting problems, including trauma related experiences. She has also provided psychological testing to support diagnostic clarification and treatment planning.

Dr. Lyndon is a Foundationally Trained DBT Clinician and is working towards DBT Certification. She is also certified in Functional Family Therapy (FFT) and has been extensively trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and DBT-Prolonged Exposure (DBT-PE). She specializes in the treatment of trauma-related disorders (e.g. post- traumatic stress disorder), anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and personality disorders. She has worked extensively with adolescents, adults, families, and groups.

Dr. Lyndon believes in the importance of continually staying up to date with the most relevant research in the field and values education and training. She currently supports the agency through training and supervision of doctoral practicum students and post-doctoral associates. With DBT being the evidence-based practice for a variety of presenting problems, Dr. Lyndon believes it is important to educate future clinicians, and our community, about the DBT model. In addition to training students at DBTOC, Dr. Lyndon is also Adjunct Faculty at Pepperdine University and works in their Master’s level Psychology Graduate Program. She is a Course Lead at Pepperdine University and a valued and recognized member of their faculty. Her current course focuses on preparing future clinicians during their practicum experiences. Dr. Lyndon is passionate about the work she does and strives to provide the skills needed to better understand the mind/body connection and the importance of active self-care and validation. Dr. Lyndon values each individual’s journey and considers herself fortunate to be a part of the process in supporting patients on their path to a Life Worth Living.
