Learning Objectives
- Identify examples of Somatic Therapy.
- Discuss the role of neuroception, Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) regulation (fight/flight/freeze), and Polyvagal Theory in client experiences, highlighting the scientific basis for somatic work.
- Demonstrate how trauma and attachment issues are not solely rooted in conscious thought, memory, or behavior, but are instead embedded in the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), implicit memory, and neural wiring.
- Explain how somatic therapy rewires the brain, transforms implicit memory, and addresses unconscious, harmful behaviors in clients.
- Identify a key challenge therapists face when using talk therapy alone to treat trauma.
- Provide strategies and a few simple somatic tools for immediate use.
